Gorgeous Germans

This last Saturday at Dr. Sketchy’s in New York City was wonderful. Two fabulous cabret performers from Berlin graced us with their presence. The lovely Xarah and her fantastic fire-breathing show and the lovely Tronicat and her beautiful ballet dancing. It truly was a treat. If you weren’t there you missed out but lucky for you, I do video things.

The Laying of Hands on Genitals

A video diary listing of one person’s penile pugilism tactics set to music. Penile may be the wrong word here as our narrator explicitly states:

“But you ain’t gotta be a dude, shit I’ll dick-punch a chick
Cuz I don’t discriminate when I punch em in the dick!
Whether Suzy Homemaker or a floozy home-wrecker
I’ma deck ‘er in the pecker motherfecker!”

So don’t start thinking you ladies are safe from this mans desire to place his hands on your genitals in an angry fashion.

After talking with Brian Lonano at length one begins to notice a glimmer in his eye. You might think it to be a passion and drive that is lacking in many of the mindless drones out there or at least, that’s what I thought at first. Really, it’s not the sparkle-in-the-eye-creative-what-have-you but a reflection off his goddamn terminator eye because Brian is a robot. Of what kind I cannot say. He might be super-robo-power-helper-Arnold from Terminator II or, maybe, he is stab-you-in-your-face-through-your-milk-Robert-Patrick from Terminator II powered only by the blood of puppies and the tears of orphans. I’m not sure but what I can tell you is that Brian knows robots and seizes the opportunity to display his brethren in any of our man-made mediums. His preferred medium is that of our talkies. Brian’s latest, “ATTACKAZOIDS: DEPLOY” is currently making the festival circuit. It took Best Sci-Fi Short at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival and has been accepted at the Coney Island Film Festival. ATTACKAZOIDS: DEPLOY is the sequel to, wait for it, “ATTACKAZOIDS!”. The latter has, as of this last week, been accepted to the Hollywood Film Festival. If you’re in New York this October stop by the Coney Island Film Festival for “ATTACKAZOIDS: DEPLOY!”. If you can’t make that you can follow them on Twitter here or the ATTACKAZOIDS website here, where you can view the first installment in its entirety. The end of the human race at the hands of giant killer robots as told from the point of view of one fleeing and hysterical woman. How can anything with that synopsis not be oozing with awesome sauce? Why are you still reading this? How have you not clicked the link? Well, you can watch the trailer for the sequel on the site as well(as well as below) and, if the robo-gods are smiling on you, it will soon be playing at Whateverthefuckcityyoulivein Film-Fest. Seeing as how Brian’s robot friendliness is still in question I suggest you go see it for one should never anger the robots.

Retinal Revelations

Since I’m actually an active participant in my own world once again I thought I’d share some of the inspiration I’m using for now. Things of this nature, along with good music and good movies are coffee for my creative centers, adrenaline for my amygdala, porn for my parietal. Things of this nature are constantly running in the background to keep my brain from stagnating and to keep those creative wheels turning. werd.

August 29th. Amon Tobin. On a boat! In New York City, for $30, you can hop on a boat and watch a band perform while you sail up the Hudson River, around lower Manhattan and spin around to take Battery Park head on. What makes it even better is if the band that is performing is someone you actually listen to. On August 29th Amon Tobin descended from his Bastille of Beats in Canada, loaded his gear onto a boat and melted the faces of all within earshot. Because of the boat/sail-tour of Manhattan part of the show one is encouraged to bring cameras. Not being without my trusty FLIPHD I was able to take some video of the show. The video that was snapped is minimal as I was there to receive some aural from Amon Tobin and not to work. Before Amon Tobin there was a performance by Eclectic Method. Nothing to write home about but something to write on the internets about I guess.

I rather enjoyed it. If for no other reason then the visuals included, amongst other childhood memories: Vanilla Ice, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, etc, etc. Watching someone mix video live was a bit of fun as well but, seeing as how video is my thing, I may have some bias. Probably not though. It was kind of cool.

After Eclectic Method finished up this happened:

Sorry about the distorting audio but there is just so much awesome current technology can handle. Pictures were taken as well and you may find those here.

And, as I get bored and play with video software. Here’s Amon Tobin dancing.

All For Me Grog

Two posts in one day! Stay thy brain and ignore the panic that swells in your mind’s eye’s mind! All is well. It’s true, I’m actually posting more. No, my sanity is unchanged. With that said, late last month the lovely Kim Boekbinder and Kayla Oberlin stopped by Dr. Sketchy’s to play us some sea-diddys. In an attempt to get a room full of boozed up art monkeys to sing along they serenaded us with “All For Me Grog”. After some coaxing and promises of aural treats a group of New Yorkers actually smiled, joined arms with their fellow man, raised their eyes to the heavens and sang the praises of grog. What follows is an account of that day.

Dr. Sketchy’s “Alice” Tribute

Long, long ago, back towards the beginning of summer, I signed on to do some video work with the lovely group over at Dr. Sketchy’s here in New York. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon yeah? Drawing, dames and drinks? One please. Anyway, I’ve been cutting some videos and seem to have neglected posting them to my own ‘lil blog-thingy here. It’s okay, I punished myself by not thinking about it and sleeping but, now that said punishment is over, here is a video.

Incidental Inspiration

It seems the mind is best at its creative processes when it is floating without purpose in the æther. When the television, radio, computer and phone are all sending noise at you and you tune everything out for a split second, that’s when the thought hits you. I operate very much this way when I sit down to write. I usually have music playing from the computer, music in the other room playing out from a different source and will usually be cruising through links on the Internets in-between staring contests with the cat. It looks like I actually have some time to do some writing this weekend so I sought out some forms of inspiration. These are a few of the images that seem to give the brain a good base/platform for the weekend.

Pine-filled Perforations

SXSW. That magical time of year when artists and artsy-types gather down in Texas for movies, music and other artsy snobbery. The 2009 festival had one film in particular that stepped up and caught my eye, if for no other reason then the graphic depictions of children being horrifically slaughtered and drowned in a bloody, gory, piney death. See, I’ve seen a fair share of indie films where kids are offed(or, at least, the insinuation is made) for dramatic effect or to be “edgy” but I don’t see it often done to invoke laughter(or often enough frankly). This comes as no surprise for, if there’s one thing I’ve learned from the homeless guy who wanders the local college campus it’s that, “The trees are out to get us all!” I know that doesn’t seem to make much sense but it will once you’ve seen the trailer for the film that is “Treevenge”.

The film follows the death-camp-like enslavement of a group of pine trees and their eventual escape from their evil human overlords. And sometimes this escape is only possible through a 12 year old girls torso or an infants soft, pliable skull matter. All to the delight of the audience and possible terror of the children’s parents. If the trailer intrigued you go and visit Twitch for the entire sixteen minute short. If you’re like me it will provide a good 32 minutes of entertainment for the afternoon. Subsequent viewings are encouraged.

Spasmodic Stimulus

This site could use a face-lift. However, I’m tired of posting to Facebook and Twitter and then emailing people that don’t fall into those two categories so, this will be the dumping ground for my brain noises. What follows are a few of the images I will be using for inspiration this week for all of the evil little side projects I like to work on. Many, if not most, of these projects never see the light of day. They stew in the dark catacombs of my creative play-pen until I’ve worked them into something I hate and then I burn them whilst cursing the gods for giving me such stupendous imagination that I can’t focus on any one thing until it is good and done. That being said, here are some images.
